6.28 square kilometers of eroded soil treated in 2020: report
    2021-10-12  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

AUTHORITIES treated 6.28 square kilometers of eroded soil in Shenzhen last year as the city’s environment continued to improve, Shenzhen Special Zone Daily reported.

The total area of land with soil erosion was 58.02 square kilometers last year, while the annual soil erosion volume was 207,400 tons, according to a soil and water conservation report released by the Shenzhen Municipal Government recently. The city’s soil erosion intensity levels were classified as mild, strong and moderate, the Daily report said.

In 2020, Shenshan Special Cooperation Zone had the largest eroded land area, highest proportion of soil erosion to land area and the largest soil erosion volume among all district-level administrative divisions in Shenzhen. Longgang and Bao’an districts all had higher proportion of areas with soil erosion at strong and above levels.

Shenzhen has reported a decrease in areas affected by soil erosion since 2009. In 2019, the eroded area in Shenshan Special Cooperation Zone was included in the calculation of the city’s total eroded areas, resulting in an increase of the city’s total area of land with soil erosion.

The city’s water, natural resources and urban management bureaus vigorously carried out water and soil conservation work last year and took the initiative to implement the concept of ecological protection, completing the treatment of 6.28 square kilometers of land affected by soil erosion, according to the Daily report.
