Patriotism behind Meng Wanzhou
    2021-10-13  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

Zhang Kailun, Yantian Foreign Language School

Recently, the piece of news that Meng Wanzhou, after more than 1,000 days of groundless detention, had left Canada to return to China safely in a charter flight organized by the Chinese government, has become a recent focus of attention on WeChat, microblogs, the internet and so on.

Why does it draw almost everyone’s attention? The answer is obvious. Because in fact, it’s a resounding success for China to fight against the hegemonism of Western countries, especially the U.S.

It goes without saying that the U.S. and Canada compromise because of China’s ever-increasing comprehensive national strength and international position, and the Chinese government is more capable of better protecting the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese citizens and enterprises. Also, according to Meng herself, “Without a powerful motherland, I would not have my freedom today.”

Meanwhile, no one can deny Meng made great efforts to strive for freedom. However, when the U.S. government made her admit guilt as the condition to give her freedom, she refused it firmly, for she said she didn’t commit any crimes. While facing all of important problems involving the interests of the state or Huawei, she put them first and never sacrificed them for her own benefits.

For us, we’re proud that we live in such a strong nation. To be specific, think back to last year, at the height of the epidemic, thousands of doctors, nurses, volunteers, policemen and scientists risked their lives to protect others’ safety.

Isn’t it a specific behavior of patriotism? The reason why we live a happy life today is that behind us is a powerful motherland.

As far as I’m concerned, we must learn and pass on such strong patriotism. For one thing, we need to learn that Meng will never give up in difficulties, face everything positively with a good attitude, and try every means to solve difficulties.

For another, we should also study hard and make our own contributions to our motherland.
