As we all know, English is such an important course that almost every student in China has to take it. Students have to learn this language for 16 years or even longer. You may wonder why we must learn English. It’s not just another foreign language! I think that everybody used to suffer from the pain of learning a new language. Some even want to call off the course in high schools. Is it really necessary for us to learn English? Don’t worry! Let me tell you some reasons.

First of all, English offers us an opportunity to exchange views with people from all over the world. Currently, with the rapid development of the internet, everyone has the channels to communicate with foreigners via social media. At this time if you have a good command of English, you will find it easy to share your points and views with foreigners. Using me as an example, my favorite singer is Taylor Swift. If I could talk with her or her fans in English, I think it would be a wonderful experience. It is an incredible thing to share your own thoughts with foreigners on occasions such as the World Cup and the Olympic Games. Looking at things from a distinct aspect is quiet amazing.

Also, having a good command of English leads me to the fantastic world of English. That’s mainly because I don’t need to depend on the translation but can feel the charm of English words. English is as pretty as the Chinese language to a certain degree.

Additionally, English also plays an important part in your future careers, especially for those who are interested in science and technology. If you want to learn about science and technology, a large vocabulary is required when you are carrying out research that requires consulting with lots of materials. If you don’t learn English, it will be extremely troublesome for you to translate the materials. There are still some moments when you need English to do you a favor. For example, when you’re carrying out studies with scientists around the world, you are required to figure out their progress and communicate with them too. Misunderstanding is caused by different languages. Therefore, you are required to be proficient in English if you dream to be a scientist or engineer.

Apart from the above, I consider that using a foreign language to promote and popularize our traditional culture and modern achievements to the whole world is definitely meaningful.

All in all, English is absolutely significant for us. If you want to learn it well, just remember: All things are difficult before they are easy and interest is the best teacher.
