SZ launches design contest for fishing port upgrade
    2021-10-25  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

THE international design scheme competition for Shekou Fishing Port’s upgrade and renovation project was recently launched, inviting global teams to help build Shenzhen into a “global marine central city.”

The project is jointly sponsored by the Nanshan District Government and Shenzhen Municipal Planning and Natural Resources Bureau.

The project aims to upgrade the port by integrating its fishing port function with coastal experience and tourism. The project also aims to improve the fishing environment and its relationship with surrounding communities, solve wastewater and garbage disposal problems as well as noise pollution, and optimize traffic conditions in the area.

As a national first-class fishing port, Shekou Fishing Port has undergone several changes, has been a part of many Shenzhen citizens’ memories and has been a historical witness to the city’s urban development.

The construction of Qianhai cooperation zone as well as the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA) and the completion of Shenzhen Bay’s coastal leisure belt have brought a new historical spotlight on Shekou.

The competition adopts a global open registration method and is open to organizations only. Individuals and groups of individuals are not allowed. Competing organizations must be composed of a chief designer, architects, landscape professionals and civil engineers specializing in bridges and ports.

A selection panel will pick eight design teams and two alternative design teams to participate in the scheme design stage. The top three winning designs are expected to be decided in February 2022 and each will receive a prize of 1.2 million yuan (US$187,920) (tax included). (Xia Yuanjie)
