Ji-wan Nam, Gounee Yang Global Economic News SAMSUNG SDI will establish an electric vehicle (EV) battery cell and module plant with world’s fourth-largest automaker Stellantis in the United States. It will be Samsung SDI’s first EV battery production plant to be built in the United States. With the establishment of the joint venture, Samsung SDI plans to speed up expanding into the U.S. EV battery market. The joint venture will produce EV battery cells and modules from the first half of 2025, with an annual production capacity of 23 gigawatt hours. The battery plants will supply batteries to assembly plants in the United States, Canada and Mexico for installation in next-generation electric vehicles ranging from plug-in hybrids to full battery electric vehicles. Samsung SDI did not provided details on the amount of investment, name of the venture and construction schedule. |
