SHENZHEN MSU-BIT University (SMBU) held a ceremony yesterday on its Longgang campus to mark the fifth anniversary of the university’s establishment and celebrate the 20th anniversary of the signing of the Treaty of Good Neighborliness and Friendly Cooperation between the People’s Republic of China and the Russian Federation.

An artistic performance was staged to kick off the ceremony yesterday morning.

Via video link, Zhang Hanhui, Chinese ambassador to Russia, and Andrey Denisov, Russian ambassador to China, presented their congratulations to SMBU’s fifth anniversary, valuing its role in cultivating a batch of talented graduates who have helped promote cooperation between the two countries in various fields over the past five years.

Victor Antonovich Sadovnichy, rector of Lomonosov Moscow State University (MSU), and Zhang Jun, president of Beijing Institute of Technology (BIT), also sent their congratulations via video link and a letter.

At the ceremony, Shenzhen Vice Mayor Zheng Hongbo urged SMBU to create a model for China-Russia cooperative education and contribute to the Belt and Road Initiative as well as Sino-Russian strategic partnerships.

Sergey Shakhray, first vice rector of SMBU, said that it is now essential for the university to build an employment system for its graduates. SMBU is planning to set up its affiliated kindergarten and primary, junior and high schools.

Li Hezhang, rector of SMBU, said at the ceremony that the university will enhance efforts to become a high-level university in Guangdong and a world-class comprehensive university featuring research in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, make bigger contributions to deepening education collaboration between China and Russia, and promote the friendship between the people of the two countries.

SMBU will hold a string of celebrations such as painting exhibitions, student seminars, artistic performances and essay writing contests in October and November.

President Xi Jinping and Russian President Vladimir Putin issued a joint statement June 28, officially deciding to extend the China-Russia Treaty of Good-Neighborliness and Friendly Cooperation.

SMBU was jointly founded by the Shenzhen Municipal Government, Lomonosov Moscow State University and Beijing Institute of Technology in 2016.
