Central Conservatory of Music professor Liu Xiao will play classic violin pieces, such as Monti’s “Csardas,” Paganini’s “Cantabile in D Major,” Saint-Saëns’ “Sonata No. 1 for Violin and Piano in D Minor, Op. 75,” Massenet’s “Meditation,” Dvorak’s “Slavonic Dances in E Minor, Op. 72, No. 2,” Carlos’ “Por Una Cabeza,” Sarasate’s “Zigeunerweisen” and “The Butterfly Lovers” by Chen Gang and He Zhanhao. Liu served as the international judge of the Third China International Violin-Making Competition and the Ninth International Youth Arts Festival in South Korea. In 2009, he was granted the Kansas Governor’s Gold Medal in the United States. He was selected to be supported by the 2013 National New Century Excellent Talent Project, and won both the Sumner Redstone Prize and the National Award for Distinguished Music Achievements. At 17 years old, he was crowned at the French MIDO International Violin Competition, and then pursued advanced studies at the world-famous Paris Conservatory in France.
