Longhua student wins gold at national children’s invention award
    2021-11-10  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

Huang Han, an eighth grader at Shenzhen Longhua Second Foreign Languages School, won a gold award at the recently concluded 16th Soong Ching Ling Award for Children’s Invention, becoming one of the event’s 30 gold winners this year and the only gold winner from Guangdong Province.

Huang’s invention is a scale used to demonstrate the phenomenon of thermal expansion. With just a few steps, the scale helps students better understand the phenomenon by showing how an object expands when it gets heated and contracts when it gets cooled.

“I was so excited when I heard the news,” Huang told reporters. “Winning the award would not be possible without the help provided by my school and the guidance of my teacher Niu Rong. I have learned a lot from the competition, and I will continue to explore the world of innovation.”

Science education has always been a focus of Shenzhen Longhua Second Foreign Languages School. The school has a number of dedicated education spaces including labs, computer labs, a science popularization center and a maker’s center for science and innovation education. In November 2020, the school was recognized as a “Zhong Nanshan innovation award experiment school” for its outstanding performance in promoting science education.
