Winter Olympic and Paralympic Village is ready to serve
    2021-11-12  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

THE Winter Olympic and Paralympic Village of Beijing 2022 will provide full-time service for athletes, coaches and officials during the Games, 53 days in total, in the three competition zones of Beijing, Yanqing and Zhangjiakou, respectively.

Beijing Major Projects Construction Headquarters Office said Wednesday that next year, the Village will start trial operation for the Olympics on Jan. 23, officially opening Jan. 27, and will be closed Feb. 23; the Village will then launch its trial operation for the Paralympics on Feb. 23, opening Feb. 25, and closing March 16.

The construction of the Olympic and Paralympic Village in the Beijing competition zone started Sept. 27, 2018 and was completed June 26, 2021.

In the south of the National Olympic Sports Center, the Beijing Olympic and Paralympic Village consists of 20 buildings with a total construction area of about 330,000 square meters, which can accommodate 2,338 participants in the Olympics and 1,040 participants in the Paralympics, also offering catering and medical services.

The operation pressure test for the Beijing Olympic and Paralympic Village started Nov. 9, followed by all-factor tests Nov. 20 and 21.

Meanwhile, Beijing 2022 organizers have sent their best regards to Polish luger Mateusz Sochowicz who got injured and received surgery during the international training week.

Sochowicz fractured his leg Monday afternoon when he was attending a training session organized by the FIL Luge International Training Week in Yanqing, one of the three competition zones of Beijing 2022.

He was immediately rushed to hospital and received surgery that night.

“The surgery went well and Mr. Mateusz Sochowicz is recovering,” said the official website of the Beijing Organizing Committee for the 2022 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games. “We are sending our best wishes for him to get well soon.”

Following the incident, the International Luge Federation and the venue operational team carried out a thorough inspection of the track and adapted the arrangement of the training, which resumed later that day.

Currently, lugers are warming up for the upcoming Luge World Cup on Nov. 21-22.
