The Shenzhen Library brought the Huaqiang Vocational and Technical School into its “cultivating young readers” network on Friday, making the vocational school the eighth member of its network. A launch ceremony was attended by officials both from the library and the school, as well as professors from Shenzhen University and Sun Yat-sen University, all of whom spoke during a seminar about reading and took questions from students after the ceremony. Zhao Meng, principal of the school, said the partnership with Shenzhen Library will have a significant influence upon his students. He anticipates that the library will lend its resources to the school to help organize lectures and initiate research projects. Zhang Yan, the chief librarian, said reading is a great means for the young to learn knowledge, explore the world and build their character. She pledged to make contributions to the school in reading-related programs. She also invited students to work as volunteers at her library to gain extracurricular skills and some work experiences.
