SHENZHEN boasted 15 national first-class protected wild animal species and two types of national first-level protected wild plants, according to the latest report on terrestrial wildlife released by the Shenzhen Municipal Planning and Natural Resources Bureau.

The national first-class protected wildlife include pangolin, viverricula indica (small Indian civet), spoon-billed sandpiper, black-faced spoonbill, paphiopedilum purpuratum (Venus slipper), and cycas fairylakea (cycad).

In addition, the city is home to 78 national second-class protected wild animal species and 33 national second-class protected wild plant species.

The data is based on investigations conducted in the city from 2013 to 2021, according to Shenzhen Special Zone Daily.

Shenzhen has recorded a total of 585 types of native land-based wild vertebrates by far, including 68 fish types, 22 amphibious animal species, 61 reptile types, 382 bird types and 52 mammal types.

Shenzhen currently recorded 2,086 vascular plant species and 1,916 local wild species including 186 fern types, seven gymnosperm types and 1,893 kinds of angiosperms.
