SHENZHEN aims to become a benchmark smart city in the world and a model city of Digital China by 2025, according to a document recently published by the Shenzhen government.

To achieve this goal, the city will stress the underlying role of new infrastructure, the core driving role of data, innovative development of new modes and models, and regional coordination and international cooperation, the document states.

Shenzhen has taken the lead in the country’s smart city construction. Its e-government performance ranked first among the country’s 32 key cities, according to a survey on e-government performance of key provincial and city governments published in May last year.
