A JOINT medical school under the cooperation of the Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) and King’s College London will be established in Shenzhen, according to an approval of the Ministry of Education.

The medical school based at SUSTech will offer a dual degree program that is recognized by the U.K. and China’s education authorities.

During the initial stage, the medical school will offer three majors namely clinical medicine, biomedical science and biomedical engineering, according to SUSTech’s recent release.

King’s College London ranked 35th in the 2022 QS World University Rankings and its medical science discipline is 17th in the ranking. The cooperation will bring the U.K. college’s 800-year history and world-renowned reputation in training doctors and medical professionals to the dynamic Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

The joint medical school will help establish the city as the place to go to for high-quality medical education, health care and cutting-edge research.

SUSTech and King’s College London started discussion over establishment of the School of Medicine four years ago and signed an agreement in June 2019.

The medical school aims to become an internationalized, high-level and research-type university.

SUSTech will also explore and establish a medical talent cultivation system in line with the international standards, support students to study an internationalized and high-quality medical science education to improve their competitiveness, and cultivate talents with global vision, medical and humanistic qualities.
