
Chinese pianist Shen Wenyu, who won second prize at the Queen Elisabeth International Music Competition in Belgium in 2003 and first prize at the Rachmaninoff International Piano Competition in Los Angeles in 2005, will give a recital in town. The program will include Beethoven’s “Moonlight Sonata,” the first movement of Beethoven’s “Symphony No. 5” transcribed by Liszt, Liszt’s “Hungarian Rhapsody No. 2” and several Chinese pieces. Noted by the German newspaper Süddeutsche Zeitung for his “completely beautiful, lively and accurate” performance, Shen moved to Germany at 11 to study at the University of Music Karlsruhe and the Hanover Theater and Conservatory for the Performing Arts. Shen has taught at Shenzhen University and Nanjing Arts Institute. Since 2012, he has been uploading free piano videos on social media for music lovers.
