What I know about Versailles
    2021-11-24  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

Zhou Xia, Class 6, Senior 2, Shenzhen Foreign Languages School Instructed by Zhou Qingyou

As we know, Versailles always stands for France, especially the Louis XIV France. It was not a peaceful period of time which led to the countdown to the French Revolution and the monarchy was at stake.

The TV series “Versailles” shows us a different François, as Versailles connects the whole story perfectly from the view of emperors. It is divided into three episodes, the first one talking about emperors’ ambition, the second focusing on the achievements, and the third paying more attention to controversies over the empire. With its episodes chronologically arranged, Versailles almost covers the three emperors’ lifetimes, aiming to show the changes of the economic and political center of François.

Louis XIV was extravagant but smart and good at governance, indulged in pleasure and was ambitious and charming. He was portrayed as Soleil, which undoubtedly shows people’s respect for him. Louis XV was born with gold spoon in his mouth, but he was just an ordinary emperor, leading a peaceful life. Different from above, Louis XVI was faced with a big challenge, the countdown to the Revolution. He decided to reform the tax system, but resigned to give it up, and then, surrendered to the Revolutionary force.

The Hundred Years’ rule of the Bourbon Dynasty was famous for Versailles, and ended up with Marseillaise. Although years have passed, the Bourbon Dynasty has disappeared in the everlasting process of history. Versailles is still there, standing upright, reminding us and the generations to come of a brilliant, magnificent and tortuous empire.
