Luo Wenqian, Class 6, Senior 2, Shenzhen Foreign Languages School Instructed by Zhou Qingyou “Thank you very much for your help!” I’ve received such grateful words many times since I started volunteering when I was a junior high student. Speaking of volunteers, at that time I simply knew they wore red vests and offered voluntary work. In the beginning, I just volunteered in the library and helped maintain order there. The work was easy but challenging, which required the staff to stand three hours a day. It’s hard to say how this work has influenced me, but I’m sure it changed the way I thought about volunteering. I received lots of thanks from strangers that really made my day. As the saying goes, “A rose is in her hand, the flavor in mine.” Today, “volunteer” is not just a simple job for me; it also means taking on more responsibility and serving others with all my heart. As far as I’m concerned, the red vest and its meaning is the honor of volunteers and their source of power. When I am volunteering to help, it looks like I can get more than just pleasure and experience. In the early 2020s, there was an outbreak of COVID-19 all over the world. Thousands of volunteers cooperated with each other and helped contain the outbreak to the best of their ability. Compared with the work in the peaceful periods, their work in the mist of the pandemic would without doubt become more laborious and dangerous. Apart from doctors and nurses who try their best to save more people, personally speaking, the volunteers who are struggling to stop the pandemic are also our heroes. Every day, volunteering happens around us. A number of volunteers always try their best to give others a hand and make the world a better place. Only when we do voluntary service can we experience the great spirit of volunteers. |
