IoT market

THE country’s Internet of Things (IoT) market is expected to surpass US$300 billion in 2025, according to an industry report.

The figure will account for about 26.1 percent of the total global IoT market volume, said a report released by research firm International Data Corp. (IDC). In the next five years, China’s spending on software, hardware and service will maintain steady growth, with the hardware spending taking the lion’s share during the period, according to the report. Internet of vehicles, smart metering, intelligent home and wearable terminal will see a rapid increase thanks to the construction of infrastructure including 5G, said the report.

Self-driving buses

THREE self-driving buses developed by Chinese tech giant Baidu have started trial commercial operation in Chongqing Municipality.

The buses, named Robobus, are 5.9 meters long and have a cruising speed of about 40 km per hour. They are equipped with Level 4 automation technology. The buses can stop by themselves, navigate complex urban road conditions and fully meet the needs of normal bus operation, said Baidu, adding that they run on a round trip of nearly 10 km.

Development plan

THE industry ministry Friday unveiled a five-year plan aimed at the green development of its industrial sectors, vowing to lower carbon emissions and pollutants and to promote emerging industries so as to meet a carbon peak commitment by 2030.

China is aiming to bring its carbon emissions to a peak by 2030 and become carbon-neutral by 2060. The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology reiterated the targets of cutting carbon dioxide emissions by 18 percent and energy intensity by 13.5 percent by 2025, according to the plan which covers the period between 2021 and 2025. It also said it will strictly control capacities in steel, cement, aluminum and other sectors.
