HUAWEI is building the world’s largest industrial park with near-zero carbon footprint in the Antuoshan area in Futian District, signaling the tech giant’s commitment to contributing to China’s construction of a green and sustainable society.

The Antuoshan campus, featuring photovoltaic power generation, energy storage and flexible electricity use, will open in 2022.

“The campus will generate 1.5 million kWh of nonfossil electricity annually and reduce power use by half to realize carbon neutrality,” said Hou Jinlong, president of Huawei Digital Power, at the recent online TrustInTech Summit.

“Over the next 30 to 40 years, we will continue to see intelligent and low-carbon technologies gain traction with innovation,” Hou said.

He further explained: “Going intelligent requires power electronics technologies. As these trends progress, the global energy industry will change from resource-dependent to technology-driven.”

According to Hou, the company is building low-carbon homes, factories, campuses, villages and cities through technology innovation and cooperation with global partners and customers to support the shift from a low-carbon to a net-zero world.

As of Sept. 30, Huawei Digital Power had helped customers generate 443.5 billion kWh of green power and save 13.6 billion kWh of electricity. This is equivalent to reducing carbon emissions by 210 million tons and planting 290 million trees, according to data released by Huawei Digital Power.

Global industry leaders attended the summit, including Neil Bush, founder and chairman of George H.W. Bush Foundation for U.S.-China Relations; Pascal Lamy, chairman of Paris Peace Forum and former director-general of WTO; and William Nordhaus, 2018 Nobel Prize winner in economics. At the virtual summit, they discussed challenges facing the economy, environmental protection, people’s livelihood and technological innovation as well as other challenges in the carbon-neutral era.
