The impact of e-sports on everyone
    2021-12-08  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

Tony Zhu, RDF International School

On the early morning of November 7, I believe that everyone’s WeChat moment was flooded with sentences like “EDG is the first” and “EDG is the strongest.” EDG, a Chinese team with limited fame, attended the League of Legends World Championship final. Before the final, most people predicted that the champion would be DK, a veteran team from South Korea. But EDG stood out in the final and became the champion.

From a toy video game to a major event, it not only makes e-sports the hottest topic at the moment, but also brings the profession of e-sports again to the forefront. There was also an update on the 2022 Asian Games, where eight e-sports events will be added. At the same time, it caught parents’ attention: Some are for it, while some are against it. Most parents think that children should not pay attention to games, let alone play games. Tencent’s new health system recently limits children’s playtime to three hours a week for anyone under 18, but the best age for e-sports is between 16 and 22. So, will such restrictions have a big impact on e-sports as a sport?

In my opinion, this will have a very great impact on e-sports, because it will cause the loss of opportunities to find new players. At this time, many people will suggest canceling the health system, which is not feasible. If there are no system restrictions, a lot of students will be addicted to games. So I think the health system should change the time limit for different ages.

In our society, many parents talk about limiting children’s playtime, but forget that the parents themselves are already addicted to all kinds of short videos. As time goes by, there will be a lack of communication between parents and children.

Therefore, I suggest that short video platforms should also develop some health systems to limit the watching time of adults, so as to better solve the problem of minors being addicted to electronic devices.
