Expats Eye SZ Photo Contest winners unveiled

WINNERS of the third Expats Eye Shenzhen Photo Contest have been unveiled.

The contest is hosted by the Information Office of the Shenzhen Municipal Government, organized by EYESHENZHEN.com, Shenzhen Daily and the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade Shenzhen Municipal Committee (CCPIT Shenzhen) and supported by Shenzhen OCT Happy Bay Operating Co. Ltd.

This year’s contest was held from Aug. 3 to Oct. 8, and for the first time, it was divided into humanistic and nature categories.

The humanistic category (C1) accepted entries related to Shenzhen’s cityscape, cultural heritages, sports and arts, international communities and more, while the nature category (C2) accepted entries on Shenzhen’s natural landscape, ecology (animals and plants) and human-nature relationships.

The humanistic category has one first prize, two second prizes, four third prizes, 13 merit prizes and 27 finalist awards. The nature category has one first prize, two second prizes, four third prizes, seven merit prizes and 15 finalist awards.

An awards ceremony and exhibition featuring the contest’s winning works will be held later this month.

The first prize winners are “Well-recorded Event” by Thomas Edison Harvey from the U.S. for the humanistic category and the “Wildest Shenzhen” photo series by Isaac Cohen from Colombia for the nature category. Each winner will receive a 10,000-yuan (US$1,529) cash prize.

The second prize winners are the “Clothing Repair Street in Yantian” photo series by Yuriy Tarasenko from the Republic of Moldova and “Yantian Port at Night (货柜场的夜景)” by Hiyane Yusuke from Japan for the humanistic category, and the “Colors of the Wild” photo series by Ashley Main from the U.K. and “Hidden Gems” photo series by Francisco Vergara from Chile for the nature category. Each winner will receive an 8,000-yuan cash prize.

The third prize winners for the humanistic category are “Keep It Real” by Jeremy David Smith from Canada, “New Family” by Andres Fernando Martinez Herrera from Ecuador, “Hardwork (兄弟加油)” by Jesus Eduardo Campos Semeno from Mexico and the “Shenzhen Must-see Spots” photo series by Nikolay Kruzhilin from Russia.

The third prize winners for the nature category are “Cool Breeze” by Peter Watson from Australia, “After Diving” by Romario Severino from Brazil, the “Free Soaring” photo series by Giulia Curtolo from Italy, and “Soak in Rain” by Bambie Olorvida from the Philippines.

All third prize winners will each receive a 3,000-yuan cash prize.

The year’s contest has received nearly 1,800 entries from 173 contestants from 36 countries in total, including the U.S., Colombia, Russia, the U.K., France, Brazil, and Japan.
