Shenzhen contestants win nine gold medals at vocational skills competition
    2021-12-15  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

At the Second Guangdong Province Vocational Skills Competition (Guangzhou division) which concluded on December 6, contestants from Shenzhen bagged a total of nine gold medals, 11 silver medals, six bronze medals and 11 merit awards, which helped Shenzhen secure the front rank in the tallies for gold medals and overall medals, dutenews.com reported.

According to the report, the Second Guangdong Vocational Skills Competition is the highest-level, the largest and the most influential comprehensive vocational skills competition event in Guangdong Province.

In this year’s edition, Shenzhen sent 71 contestants to compete in all 60 events, and the contestants were mainly from technical colleges, vocational colleges and enterprises. The average age of the contestants was 24.

In the category of “Big Data Technology Application,” Chen Nan, an 18-year-old student from the Shenzhen Institute of Technology majoring in communication network application, stood out from doctoral students and associate senior teachers and won the gold medal.

In the “Big Data Technology Application” category, contestants were required to apply their knowledge to a simulated scenario of a COVID-19 outbreak on campus; more specifically, contestants needed to use five modules within 10 hours to trace close contacts with COVID-19 patients by comparing relevant data.

Yi Haibo, a teacher at Shenzhen Polytechnic, won the gold medal in the category of “Blockchain Application Operator,” in which the contestants were required to design, deploy and build a simulated e-commerce platform using blockchain technology through four modules within 14 hours.

Cai Yuxing, director of the Shenzhen Vocational Skills Certification Guidance Office, said “Shenzhen is home to a large number of leading blockchain enterprises and has developed a blockchain middleware platform with independent intellectual property rights, with strong industrial advantages and first-mover advantages.”

In addition, Shenzhen contestants also earned gold medals in their chosen categories including graphic design technology, 3D digital game art, industrial design technology, hotel hospitality, welding, and others.

They also made new breakthroughs in mobile application development, network security, industrial robotics system integration, Internet of Things (IoT) technology and other technologies.

In recent years, Shenzhen has been adhering to the path of “government guidance, participation within the society and diversified patterns of cultivation” and has been ramping up efforts to innovate in talent training, evaluation, competition, and incentives support.
