Shenzhen MSU-BIT University (SMBU) was awarded the Luban Prize, China’s top award for construction quality, according to the latest Luban Prize list (2020-2021) unveiled recently.

Located in Longgang District, SMBU covers a floor area of 333,700 square meters, with 21 buildings including the main building, two laboratory buildings, three teaching buildings, a library, gymnasium, student activity center, student dormitories and teacher apartments. The construction of the school began in December 2016 and concluded in April, 2019. SMBU’s main building, which is 156 meters tall, is a typical Gothic architecture design.

It is said that advanced technologies were used to reduce energy consumption during construction. Water for domestic use and rains are reused for plant watering on campus after being purified twice.

The China Construction Engineering Luban Prize, is the highest honor for construction quality in China’s construction industry. The prize is awarded every two years and sets strict rules for candidate construction projects, which should be newly constructed or extension projects that have been completed and put into operation in China.

In addition to the Luban Prize, SMBU thus far has won over 20 construction prizes in the country, including the China Building Engineering Decoration Award and the Guangdong Province Construction Engineering High Quality Prize.

Its student activity center won International Architecture Awards in 2020, according to SMBU.
