Committee set up to improve school planning
    2021-12-27  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

SHENZHEN school planning and construction expert consultation committee was established Saturday, according to Shenzhen Economic Daily.

The committee includes four academicians from the Chinese Academy of Engineering — Cui Kai, Meng Jianmin, Ding Lieyun and Mei Hongyuan — who are responsible for offering suggestions on key issues in school planning and construction.

The rest of the committee members are comprised of public servants and experts and the first committee is said to have 17 public servants and 50 experts.

The public servants are comprised of those from the Municipal Education Bureau, Municipal Finance Bureau, Municipal Development and Reform Commission and Municipal Planning and Natural Resources Bureau.

The experts are comprised of people recommended by the city departments from their expert banks and industry associations.

The committee will draft school construction standards, review designs, feasibility plans and suggestions for school constructions, and offer advice on development strategies and policies concerning school planning and construction.

It will also map out a key task list to provide targeted consultation based on real situations, said the report.

The committee’s major role is to serve as a think tank to provide professional and technical support to schools across the city to ensure each newly built and newly renovated school is a school of the future with friendly and tailored education space.

In addition, the committee will contribute to the supply of quality school admissions and communication among experts, government departments and schools.

Shenzhen Mayor Qin Weizhong said at the establishment ceremony Saturday that school planning and construction is highly important. The establishment of the expert consultation committee is for improving school planning and construction level to provide high-quality education which is satisfactory to the people.

Speaking at the meeting, Qin also urged the committee to take on responsibilities to contribute to the city’s education development.

It is said that Shenzhen will add over 900,000 basic education admissions during the 14th Five-Year Plan period (2021-2025).
