Man lifted into air while flying a kite
    2021-12-27  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

A KITE flying game took a very wrong turn in Sri Lanka when a man was left hanging literally by the thread.

The incident occurred at Point Pedro in Jaffna, Sri Lanka, where a man named Nadarasa Manoharan was lifted 30 feet (9.144 meters) in the air when he tried to bounce while holding onto the rope after the rest of his team let go. But thankfully, the man landed safely and escaped unhurt.

During this kite-flying game, a group of six men were trying to lift a large kite tied to jute ropes. As it began to glide up, the team slowly let it go except for one person who tried to bounce, holding on to the rope. But things turned extremely dangerous as the kite began to rise quickly and in a split second, he was at least 30 feet above the ground and suspended in the air.

After the incident occurred, his friends began to shout frantically, asking him to leave the rope before the large kite began to fly higher. The man was caught on camera trying to save his life for almost a minute after which he finally let go.

According to Newswire, he said he was pulled into the air as he had no idea that the five people behind him had let go of the jute line.

Manoharan also mentioned that he did not look down once he was airborne and only let go of the rope when his hands became numb to hold on.

According to Daily Mirror, Manoharan was admitted to hospital after crashing to the ground. He sustained minor injuries in the freak accident.

This is not the first time an incident like this has occurred. A similar case happened in 2020 where a 12-year-old boy in Indonesia was lifted meters into the air by a giant kite before falling 30 feet in front of a horrified crowd in the Pringsewu region.
