Hyun-ju Han, Gounee Yang Global Economic News SAMSUNG Electronics will release a high-performance SSD (solid-state drive) for servers that has doubled the read/write speed to expand its market share. Samsung Electronics that it has developed a PCIe (Peripheral Component Interconnect Express) 5.0 SSD (solid state drive) for enterprise server, called “PM1743.” PCIe 5.0 is a next-generation PCIe protocol that supports 32GT/s (GigaTransfer/second) bandwidth, which has doubled compared to previous model PCIe 4.0. It is expected to be widely used for data centers and enterprise servers with high data throughput such as AI. Samsung Electronics will provide the industry’s best performance by installing its sixth Gen V-NAND and PCIe 5.0 controller in the PM1743. The PM1743 delivers sequential read speeds of 13,000 MB/s, 1.9 times faster than the previous PCle 4.0-based products, and random read speeds of 2500K IOPS (Input•Output Operations Per Second), 1.7 times faster. It has also improved the write speeds, providing sequential write speeds of 6,600 MB/s and a random write speed of 250K IOPS, 1.7 and 1.9 times faster, respectively. |
