Artworks at Taikang Space
    2022-01-11  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

Artworks with their own unique characteristics by a group of Chinese artists, including Leng Jun, Cao Fei, Feng Chaoran, Wang Sishun and Liu Chuang, are on display at Taikang Space in Chegongmiao.

Cao is a multimedia artist born in Guangzhou. Her works, which include videos, performances and digital media, examine the daily life of Chinese people. With a blend of influences including Surrealism, video games, pop culture, and documentary films, her works explore China’s widespread internet culture as well as the borders between fantasy and reality. Cao has captured the rapid social and cultural transformation of contemporary China, highlighting the impact of foreign influences.

Leng is best known for his hyper-realistic paintings. The incredible details in his paintings can truly be appreciated up close and even with a magnifying glass. In a painting at the exhibition, you can observe the incredible precision of his paintbrush, even capturing the shadow cast by a sweater’s thread on his subject’s skin.

Liu’s practice is often concerned with highlighting specific actions or characteristics of urban life in China. Known for engaging with socioeconomic matters related to China’s immediate realities, he creates works that integrate ready-mades and social interventions across various mediums, from video to installation, architecture and performance. He reflects on personal experiences of globalization and sociopolitical systems underlying the everyday existence.
