SEVEN scholars from Shenzhen Technology University (SZTU) were included on the list of the world’s top 2 percent scientists released by Stanford University for single-year (2020) citation impact in three scientific fields and four subfields, said SZTU recently. The seven scholars are Ruan Shuangchen, Hu Junqing, Kong Lingbing, Julian Chan, Wang Lulu, Zhao Junqing and Zhang Guangye. Meanwhile, Hu Junqing, Kong Lingbing and Julian Chan were also recognized on the list for career-long citation impact. Created by an expert team led by John Ioannidis from Stanford University, the list was based on Scopus, Elsevier’s citation database which provided standardized information on citations, h-index, co-authorship-adjusted hm-index, citations to papers in different authorship positions, and a composite indicator. By evaluating the database, the list selected the top 2 percent scientists from nearly 7 million scientists worldwide in 22 scientific fields and 176 subfields by assessing their career-long impact and single-year impact. On another list, Tang Benzhong, dean of the School of Science and Engineering of the Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen (CUHK-SZ), was named among the world’s top 50 scientists for his chemistry researches, according to a list released by domestic academic paper database website, Globalauthorid.com. The website listed top 100,000 scientists around the world, including 11,642 domestic scholars. Only two from China, specifically Tang (ranked 38th) and Yu Jiaguo from China University of Geosciences (Wuhan) (ranked 30th), broke into the top 50. In another development, Shenzhen University (SZU) had two more subjects – agricultural sciences and zoology & botany – listed on the top 1 percent of ESI, making the total number of the subjects entering the top 1 percent of ESI reaching 12, according to SZU.
