Jinan demolishing illegal buildings
    2022-01-18  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

JINAN City, dubbed China’s “City of Springs,” started demolishing illegal buildings in the city’s southern mountains, a water source of the springs, after a media report.

The area’s management committee began to organize workers to flatten the first batch of 14 illegal, unfinished villas starting on Friday. All of the buildings had been torn down as of yesterday.

Following an investigation report on the buildings on Thursday, the municipal authorities immediately set up a working group consisting of the municipal government leaders and those in charge of relevant departments to address the problem.

To preserve the source of the springs, the municipal government sent six working teams to the southern mountainous area to demolish illegal buildings promptly.

The provincial government of East China’s Shandong, where Jinan is its capital, also set up an investigation team to conduct a comprehensive and thorough review of relevant issues.

Relevant research shows that the springs in Jinan’s urban areas originate from the southern mountains. The precipitation and surface runoff in the mountains penetrate deep into the ground and move northward into the city, forming many natural springs.

Jinan boasts more than 950 springs, with 72 famous springs scattered citywide. Baotu Spring is known as the finest one among them.
