ALTHOUGH the 2021 Shenzhen Design Week at UpperHills wrapped up early this month, locals can enjoy another extravaganza that will last through February. In the daytime, UpperHills is known as a colorful loft town with rows of dinky and picturesque buildings. At night, a light show decorates UpperHills with installations designed by Chinese artist Xu Minqi. The show, with themes on endangered animal protection and ecological balance, features installations shaped as whales, white rhinoceroses, a tiger, an octopus and more. The glowing marine creatures and other light projections not only echo the city’s ocean culture, but also create a joyous and dreamy atmosphere at UpperHills. The recently opened aerial footbridge linking UpperHills, Lianhua Hill and Bijia Hill has made the area a welcome respite from the concrete jungle in the city center. (Cao Zhen) |
