Famous writer Zhang Jie dies

FAMOUS writer Zhang Jie died of illness in the United States on Jan. 21, according to the official website of the China Writers Association, China Writers.com.

Born in Fushun, Liaoning Province in 1937, Zhang was an important representative writer of Chinese literature in the new era. She joined the Chinese Writers Association in 1979. Her works such as “Heavy Wings,” “No Words,” “Love, Unforgettable,” “Emerald” and “Children From the Forest” have wide influence.

Zhang has won the 2nd and 6th Mao Dun Literature Award, and won the National Excellent Novella Award and National Excellent Short Story Award for many times. Some works have been translated into various languages, and won the Italian Knights Medal and German, Austrian, Dutch and other literary awards.

The Chinese Writers Association expressed high respect for Zhang’s outstanding contributions to Chinese contemporary literature in the condolence message.
