China’s waxing truck facilitates Beijing Winter Olympics
    2022-02-21  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

SINCE China’s first snowboard and skiboard waxing truck was put into use for the Beijing 2022 Olympic Winter Games at the National Cross-Country Skiing Center in Zhangjiakou, Hebei Province on Jan. 12, the truck has been operating at full capacity without power off or interruption, waxing 200 to 300 skiboards and snowboards daily.

The waxing vehicle uses multiple advanced technologies, including hydrogen power sources, photovoltaic power generation, 5G communication, live broadcast and bionic light sources for waxers and athletes, according to the developer. The truck was developed by enterprises and institutes in Shandong Province, including the China National Heavy Duty Truck Group, or Sinotruk, the Shandong Industrial Design Institute and the Taishan Sports Industry Group.

The truck has a working area of 92.5 square meters with six areas for snowboard and skiboard waxing. It is also said to be the world’s most functional waxing vehicle, as it has storage areas, shower rooms, toilets and elevators for disabled athletes.

Snowboards and skiboards need to be waxed in order to ensure speed when athletes are racing. The vehicle is a mobile waxing workshop that can be deployed at any location to support athletes during training or formal games.

The vehicle has been used by China’s skiing team for a while. It was officially handed over to the Chinese national skiing team at the end of October 2021. Then it was quickly put into use in the training program and formal games of the Chinese national cross-country skiing team in Northwest China’s Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. It also participated in the national skiing team’s activities in North China’s Hebei Province and Shanghai before the Beijing 2022 Games.

The vehicle’s heating system can maintain the inner temperature of the vehicle between 15-25 degrees Celsius even if the outside temperature falls down to -50 degrees Celsius.
