Teenagers birding at Dasha River
    2022-02-23  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

An environmental protection themed salon to encourage teenagers to learn about the Shenzhen Bay Mangrove Waterland and conduct scientific research was held at the Dasha River U-station on Saturday.

Under the guidance of Pu Ying, a middle school teacher with abundant expertise with nature observation and ecological travel, teenagers attending the salon experienced bird watching via telescopes, learned about plant recognition, and also reflected on the ecological problems of Mangrove Waterland protection.

To inspire their interest in scientific research and curiosity about the world, Chen Wei, director of the Ministry of Science and Environmental Education of Shenzhen Futian Academy of Educational Science, helped students modify their projects, teaching them standard scientific methods to conduct research.

A heated discussion about the possibility that AI may surpass humans was going on among teens after Yang Jinming, head of Sanhang Industrial Technology Research Institute, gave a speech about the relationship between artificial intelligence and the advancement of human knowledge. Teenagers thought deeply about not only AI development, but also about their own science paths. To generate interest is usually the first step towards a dream to come true. Through this salon, teenagers found further interest in science and research, at the same time enjoying and embracing the beauty of nature in practice. (Panjiang Xiuyue)
