SZ aspires to become model city for transport
    2022-02-25  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

SHENZHEN aims to become a model city in China by 2025 under the national pilot program of building a country strong in transportation, according to the 14th Five-Year Plan for the city’s transportation, which was revealed Wednesday.

By 2025, an open and smooth, dimensional integrated, low carbon and smart, safe, and easily accessible transport system will be formed.

By 2035, a transportation network with a backbone of 1,000 kilometers of Metro Lines, 1,000 kilometers of railway lines, and 1,000 kilometers of expressway and trunk roads will be formed. Shenzhen will take the lead to build a high-quality, modern and comprehensive transport system, the plan said.

Specifically, by 2025, Shenzhen Port’s container throughput will reach 33 million TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent units), LNG (liquefied natural gas) receiving capacity will reach 16 million tons and cruise ships’ passenger turnover will reach 600,000.

The annual passenger turnover of Shenzhen Bao’an International Airport will reach 70 million and the city will be connected with 100 world cities. Its cargo throughput will exceed 2.1 million tons.

Shenzhen will optimize the construction and layout of its transport hubs. Eastward, the city will speed up the construction of Shenzhen-Shenshan High-speed Railway and plan the high-speed railway to the city of Heyuan and railway link with Hangzhou-Guangzhou High-speed Railway, forming a new passage between Shenzhen and the Yangtze River Delta area. In the central axis, Shenzhen will complete the planning of Guangzhou-Shenzhen No. 2 High-speed Railway and enhance Shenzhen’s connectivity with cities in the middle reaches of the Yangtze River. Westward, Shenzhen will speed up the construction of Shenzhen-Jiangmen High-speed Railway and the preliminary work for the planning of Shenzhen-Nanning High-speed Railway.

Shenzhen has reserved the function of building Lingding Sea Link (Shenzhen-Zhuhai Link) and the western extension of Shenzhen Outer Ring Expressway to enhance its connectivity with the west bank of the Pearl River.

Shenzhen Outer Ring Expressway will be extended westward and link up with Zhongshan-Jiangmen Expressway by passing Nansha Port in Guangzhou.

Shenzhen has been chosen to be one of 13 areas in the national pilot program of building a country strong in transportation.

Shenzhen and Xiong’an in Hebei Province were the only two cities that have been chosen by the Ministry of Transportation for the program. Others were provincial-level regions that include Liaoning, Jiangsu and Zhejiang provinces, Guangxi and Xinjiang autonomous regions, and Chongqing Municipality.  (Han Ximin)
