





Yang Mei yangmei_szdaily@163.com NUMEROUS medical staff, community workers, Chinese and international volunteers across Shenzhen have joined the task forces to help the city combat the latest wave of the COVID-19 pandemic. Clad in white and blue protective suits or wearing red vests, they are seen busily working at nucleic acid testing sites and residential compounds to help residents scan the QR codes for testing, maintain good order to make sure that everyone follows health protocols properly, deliver groceries and daily necessities to those restricted to their homes, and so forth. According to Nanshan International Cultural Exchange & Service Center (NSIC), a team of over 70 Chinese and international volunteers has been formed in Zhaoshang Subdistrict of Nanshan District, including residents from China, the United States, Mexico, Belgium and India. Shekou Subdistrict and Zhaoshang Subdistrict in Nanshan, Shenzhen’s two largest expatriate communities, are designated as prevention areas. Shortly after several COVID cases were reported in Nanshan, NSIC created a WeChat group to recruit volunteers and has seen active sign-ups. Volunteers are required to present 24-hour negative nucleic acid test results. |
