SPRING flowers are in full bloom across Shenzhen, adding to the beauty of the city even when most people stay at home to cut off the transmission of the virus. Due to the latest round of COVID-19, Shenzhen residents have been placed into seven days of “slow living.” With buses off the roads and some businesses not in operation, the city is quiet and empty, but various flowers, such as bougainvillea, kapok and mealy blue sage, are fully in bloom. They offer a visual treat, brighten the day for frontline workers and are patiently waiting for the sightseeing locals and travelers to enjoy the flowers’ beauty after the lockdown is over.
