国潮
    2022-04-13  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

Meaning:

In this term, “国” is short for “中国” (zhōngguó, meaning “China”), and “潮” means “fashion, chic.” Coined by Chinese netizens, the trend of “China-chic” has been embraced by the young in recent years. Some say the trend became widely recognized in 2018, with made-in-China products representing good quality and fashion, especially those that reflect the Chinese culture and aesthetics. The trend is also reflected in renewed interest in Chinese cultural legacies, such as traditional operas, hanfu (traditional clothing worn by Han Chinese) and classical poetry.

Example:

A: 我想买一款国潮运动鞋,你有什么好推荐?

Wǒ xiǎng mǎi yīkuǎn guócháo yùndòngxié,nǐ yǒu shénme hǎo tuījiàn?

I’d like to buy a pair of “China-chic” sneakers. Do you have any recommendations?

B: 安踏、李宁都不错,你可以上网搜一搜。

Antà 、lǐníng dōu búcuò,nǐ kěyǐ shàngwǎng sōuyīsōu。

Both ANTA and Li-Ning are good. You can search for their sneakers online.
