Design for Bao’an’s green axis unveiled
    2022-04-19  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

SHENZHEN is expected to have a new landmark as Bao’an District is planning its central green axis. The district unveiled the project’s design scheme and is seeking public opinions for further improvement, according to Shenzhen Economic Daily.

The design created by James Corner Field Operations, a landscape architecture and urban design practice based in New York City in the U.S., was finally selected as an optimal scheme for the central green axis, which will cover nearly 50 hectares and is about 1,200 meters long and 430 meters wide.

The “coastal green hall” design aims to build a unique public space between the urban and coastal areas. According to the plan, the axis’ graphic view will be shaped as a Ruyi, a ceremonial scepter revered by Chinese people that symbolizes good luck and longevity.

A 1.2-kilometer-long corridor will be built to offer space for citizens’ leisure activities. At the same time, nearly 18 hectares of urban forest will be created to provide a “natural oxygen bar” for citizens. Additionally, the axis will include a large fountain and a balcony overlooking the coast.

The green axis project will connect Bao’an District’s cultural and entertainment facilities to offer options for a slow lifestyle and help boost economic vitality along the areas by improving its green landscape and city services, according to Bao’an District’s Greater Bay Area development affairs center.

The center has organized public consultation to seek opinions and suggestions on the project’s design. Moreover, the design model is now being exhibited in Bao’an Library until Friday.  (Wang Jingli)
