PHASE II of Guangzhou-Shenzhen Riverside Expressway will be simultaneously put into use in 2024 with the operation of Shenzhen-Zhongshan Link.

So far, 78% of the roadbed, 72% of the bridge and 10% of the road surface projects have been completed, a progress report released by the Shenzhen Municipal Transport Bureau showed Wednesday.

The 5.7-kilometer Phase II project includes a two-way eight-lane road and three overpass projects, namely Hezhou Overpass, Airport Overpass and Shenzhen World Exhibition & Convention Center Overpass, which connects with Fengtang Boulevard and was put into use in November 2019.

The Phase II project starts from Huanghe Tollgate of Jihe Expressway and ends at the eastern Artificial Island of Shenzhen-Zhongshan Link. It enables drivers to switch between the Guangzhou-Shenzhen Riverside Expressway, Shenzhen-Zhongshan Link, Guangzhou-Shenzhen Expressway and Jihe Expressway through Hezhou and Airport overpasses. It is designed with a maximum speed of 100 kilometers per hour.

Upon operation, it will not only improve the traffic situation at the Shenzhen airport, but also enhance connectivity between cities along the east and west banks of the Pearl River, playing a critical role for the economic development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
