SOME of Qianhai comprehensive transport hub’s underground projects were recently topped off, marking a new stage in the hub’s construction.

The hub’s construction is divided into eight pit bases of 11 land slots. Projects T2 and T4 were topped off, with six floors underground and covering a 55,600-square-meter area, the municipal transport bureau said in a release.

The Qianhai transport hub is not just a transportation infrastructure, it is also an international transportation benchmark that utilizes the underground environment to integrate with its urban environment through unified underground and on-the-ground planning and development.

Its underground space is linked to the Metro, bus and cab stations, as well as commercial centers through pedestrian walkways and is interconnected with nearby buildings. Three Metro lines and two intercity railways will meet at the hub, which is Qianhai cooperation zone’s core area.

Work continued during the May Day holiday on Qianhai Times Square, a community business block covering 40,000 square meters. The block will integrate seamlessly with the CBD, financial area, Menghai Boulevard and Liyumen Metro Station.

During the May Day holiday, work didn’t stop on the city’s major construction projects. Nearly 80,000 workers worked at the city’s 553 construction sites for Metro projects.

According to Shenzhen Metro Group, three Metro lines — lines 12, 14 and spur line of Line 6 — will be put into operation this year, bringing the total length of the city’s Metro network to over 500 kilometers.

Line 12’s civil engineering projects have been completed and all stations on Line 14 have been topped off. Work on Gangxia North Transport Hub, which will be put into use alongside Line 14 before the end of the year, is nearing completion.
