Heroes: made or born ?

I believe people are not naturally heroic. Instead, they are shaped by their own decisions. A hero possesses the following characteristics. He volunteers to help others without expecting any reward. They are selfless, brave and determined. Heroes don’t fear danger, and they respond quickly in emergency situations.

People must have certain skills in order to do heroic things. I read on the internet about a story that happened in Texas, the United States. Stephen Willeford, aged 55, stopped a gunman who had just murdered 26 people in Sutherland Springs, Texas in November 2017. On a Sunday morning, he was in his bedroom when his daughter rushed in and claimed she heard gunshots from the First Baptist Church down the street. He acted immediately. He got his firearm from his safe and ran outside without even putting on shoes, because he knew the gunshots might mean the loss of somebody’s life.

The character Cage played by Tom Cruise in “The Edge of Tomorrow” is another unforgettable hero.

At the beginning of the movie, Cage was a coward and deserter on the battlefield, but he could come back to life because he drank the blood of aliens. He was very confused at what had happened. He didn’t realize he had exceptional abilities until he met a woman who had the same experience. They worked together with humans in the war against aliens. Cage began training to strengthen his body and got a lot of fighting experience from his previous lives. In the end, Cage beat the aliens, and kicked them out of the Earth with his teammates.

Some heroes are born with exceptional mental and/or physical abilities.

Even though that’s the case, heroic deeds still lie in the choices and decisions people make. Are they willing to make sacrifices and challenge their potential? Can they stand the risks and pressures? In my opinion, a hero is always made, not born.
