THE city’s civil affairs bureau has encouraged lovebirds to rationally treat popular dates for marriage registration and make off-peak marriage registration appointments. The reminder came as May 20 is approaching. The number 520, short for May 20, is phonetically close to “I love you” in Chinese. The date has been popular in China for lovebirds to celebrate their love and thus is regarded as an auspicious day for marriage registrations and nuptials. Couples who have appointments at the marriage registration offices must go according to notifications, the bureau said. During the marriage registration process, residents are required to take personal protective measures, wear masks throughout the process, show their health codes and travel records, cooperate with temperature checks, and leave the offices after the registration is completed. The bureau said that marriage registration offices across the city have planned to increase marriage registration appointments and increase on-duty staff and extend office hours to meet the citizens’ needs for marriage registrations on the day.
