Diamond Wang, 9D, RDF International School Gu Ailing is only 18 years old, but she has made achievements many her age cannot even dream of accomplishing. In the 2022 Winter Olympics, she won two gold medals and a silver medal in the skiing events. She won glory for our country! She is our pride! And she’s my role model. Gu has balanced her academic studies and skiing very well since she was a child. She managed time efficiently with the help of her mother, and learned how to improve herself within limited time. With unremitting effort, her school performance is as good as her skiing. With a high SAT score of 1,580, she was successful at getting admitted to Stanford University, which is her dream school! When I was confronted with many difficulties, I usually felt like I couldn’t carry on and thought I would never succeed. But Gu Ailing has shown me the power of believing, that nothing is impossible. I began to understand that if I work really hard, I can accomplish a lot. I’ll start by overcoming my laziness! I’ve also learned from Gu that eight hours of sleep every day is just as important as not putting things off till the next day. I have been trying to play the guitar and am practicing every day. I have kept this hobby for a while. With better habits, I feel a lot more relaxed physically and mentally. My parents have not been nagging me like before, because I’ve improved my efficiency in learning, applying it to such things as memorizing English words. I think the most valuable quality a person can have is self-confidence. My idol Gu Ailing always smiles and appears super confident. Although I am just an ordinary student now and have not been able to bring honor to my country like her, I can learn from her to be an excellent person. I can learn to be optimistic and bring positive energy to the people around me. With hard work and perseverance, I believe, I will also be able to contribute to my country and the society in one way or another when I grow up. |
