BEYOND Meat, Inc., a U.S. plant-based meat company, launched its first-ever plant-based meat sauce collection created specifically for the Chinese market Tuesday.

In the two flavors, Classic Bolognese and Savory Black Pepper, each sauce uses plant-based Beyond Pork which is designed to deliver the meaty taste, juicy texture and culinary versatility of traditional ground pork while being made from simple, plant-based ingredients, such as rice, peas and beans.

With 4.8g protein per 100g serving, the Classic Bolognese Plant-Based Sauce can be used in an array of mealtime favorites, such as pasta, soups, pizzas, casseroles, seafood stews and more. With 5.5g protein per 100g serving, the Savory Black Pepper Plant-Based Sauce can be used as a multi-purpose meal starter or an ideal condiment for Chinese dishes such as stir-fried rice, noodles and vegetables.

The introduction of the two plant-based pork sauces follows the successful launches of the Beyond Burger, Beyond Pork and Beyond Beef products in China and comes at a time when interest in plant-based meat is growing around the world. Jeremy Yeo, Beyond Meat’s acting general manager in China, said that they have witnessed “significant potential and opportunities in the plant-based protein category, as well as the rising trend of more local consumers incorporating plant-based food into their diet” in China.

Founded in 2009 in Los Angeles, NASDAQ-listed Beyond Meat offers plant-based options in the beef, pork and poultry categories designed to have the same taste and texture as animal-based meat, while being a nutritious and environmentally-friendly option. Beyond Pork has roughly half as much saturated and total fat than traditional ground pork and is made without GMOs, antibiotics or hormones.

In the past two years, Beyond Meat has been progressively making inroads into China, opening a local production facility in Jiaxing, Zhejiang Province, and partnering with Starbucks, Sam’s Club, KFC, Tmall, JD.com and Pinduoduo here to sell its classic products. Last month, it also collaborated with Lawson to roll out plant-based beef and pork lunch boxes at Lawson’s convenience stores in Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Shanghai and Anhui.
