City advises examinees to be on alert for floods

AS heavy rainfall will continue into Saturday, gaokao takers are advised to pay attention to weather information and messages from the city’s admission and examination office for the city’s rainstorm alert updates, Shenzhen Meteorological Observatory said yesterday.

Most regions in the city were hit by thunderstorms or thundershowers yesterday, the second day of the National College Entrance Examination, also known as gaokao, during the time that examinees were heading to exam venues.

Schools across the city such as Shenzhen Hongling Middle School in Futian District and Longcheng High School in Longgang District made meticulous preparations for the expected heavy rains. For instance, they have placed large umbrella sheds and prepared hair driers, towels and clothes in case students get soaked in rain.

In addition to traffic officers who have been on duty to escort examinees caught in traffic jams and to keep order on roads around the city’s 49 exam venues, many volunteers were also seen serving at test venues.

At Meilin Middle School in Futian District, a volunteer aged over 60 years old said that this was his first time to serve during gaokao and he felt very excited.

Gaokao takers finished two tests for the subjects — foreign language (in most cases English) and physics or history (chosen by students) — on the second day.

Shenzhen examinees will finish all the gaokao subject tests today.
