STUDENTS were in high spirits when they walked out of the Central Campus of Shenzhen Senior High School in Futian District after they finished all the tests of the annual National College Entrance Examination, also known as gaokao, Thursday.

Gaokao results are scheduled to come out around June 25, according to information released by the Education Examinations Authority of Guangdong Province.

With sunflower bouquets in their hands, many parents were seen waiting outside the Central Campus of Shenzhen Senior High School for their children to finish the last subject exam Thursday.

“My daughter bought this bouquet. She is not here because she has to work,” said a mother surnamed Zeng.

When asked about expectations for her son in gaokao, Zeng said although she wishes the best for his son, she will accept whatever the result is as long as he did his best, adding that, “After all, gaokao is only a small step in his whole life.”

A gaokao taker named Wu Zhenkun, an art major student, was seen running out of the exam venue to give his father a big hug, celebrating the end of his gaokao journey.

Wu said he got an offer from Shenzhen University for his acting major test and is confident about the gaokao results.

“My summer plan is to travel to Hangzhou with my classmates from junior high school. I will choose majors related to electronic information because I am interested in the field,” said another gaokao taker named Shi Xubin.

A total of 51,200 students sat this year’s gaokao in Shenzhen. A new high of 11.93 million students took gaokao nationwide.
