A THANK-YOU letter written by a Grade 12 student from Shenzhen Middle School to a school cleaner identified as Sister Huomei has become popular on the internet recently, Shenzhen Evening News reported yesterday.

The student named Qiu Xin from Grade 12, Class 10 wrote the letter during their last high school class. Looking back, Qiu believed that it was because of Sister Huomei’s efforts that Grade 12 students had a clean and comfortable environment to study and live in.

“I appreciated her efforts and hard work. She has also become an example for us to learn from. Therefore, I want to make use of last night’s self-study class to do something meaningful and express gratitude to all the contributions of teachers, cleaners and security guards,” Qiu said.

The back of the letter was signed by Du Xiaotong, Class 10’s head teacher, along with some other students.

“When I saw the letter, I was shocked at first, but I felt grateful after. I never thought that students with heavy schoolwork would have a warm side. It showed that they didn’t lose interest in other things and showed respect for workers, which is commendable,” Du said.

Sister Huomei was very pleased and moved after receiving the letter, adding that “I treat them like my own children. Over the past year, they have studied very hard and seriously. I hope they can be admitted to good universities and come back to see us often.
