CHINESE martial artist Zhang Weili, who defeated Joanna Jedrzejczyk with a massive spinning back fist and knockout Sunday at UFC 275 in Singapore, was wearing Shenzhen-made face masks when she took part in the match, the Shenzhen company said yesterday.

Longgang-based Shenzhen Kangfeng Air Purification Technology Co., which supplied high-air-volume air disinfectant and purifier devices to the Beijing 2022 Olympic Winter Games, has long been supplying its self-developed AOP-KF anti-virus and anti-infection face masks to a number of national sports teams. Zhang, 32, has emerged as a genuine star after becoming the first Chinese UFC world champion in 2019.

Kangfeng products were chosen because of their core material AOP-KF alkali, which the company independently developed and has been patented in China and the U.S., Li Guopei, Kangfeng’s chairman and chief scientist, told Shenzhen Daily yesterday.

Unlike ordinary masks, Kangfeng’s masks contain an extra layer of AOP-KF solid alkali cloth, “which results in a 99-plus-percent inactivation rate for coronavirus, influenza A virus and respiratory syncytial virus,” Li said.

Compared to other materials used for air disinfection and purification, like activated charcoal, Kangfeng’s AOP-KF solid alkali boasts higher efficiency in removing pathogenic microorganisms, such as viruses, bacteria and fungi, as well as gaseous pollutants, like formaldehyde.

Kangfeng is the only private company that has been selected by the General Administration of Sport of China for scientific and technological breakthroughs in winter sports, according to Li.
