New function available for low-carbon lifestyles
    2022-06-15  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

A NEW function of an app which calculates users’ reduction in carbon dioxide emissions was launched, sources from an event featuring energy-saving and low-carbon living showed Monday.

The feature called “碳普惠,” said to be the country’s first carbon inclusion application, is now available on China Southern Power Grid’s “南网在线” app and “95598” WeChat miniprogram.

“My home emitted 2.05 kilograms of carbon dioxide yesterday, 0.47 kilogram less than the city’s average emissions,” a citizen surnamed Zhang said Monday. He found this new function when he paid for electricity on the app.

Once Zhang chose the

“节电碳普惠” menu on the app’s homepage, he can get information including his accumulated reduction in carbon dioxide emissions, rankings for the reduction and daily reduction.

Shenzhen Power Supply Bureau and Shenzhen Emissions Trading Market developed a methodology, used by the application, for scientifically measuring household electricity emission reductions based on residents’ accurate daily electricity consumption. The methodology was created for the first time in the country.

“At present, the methodology has been reviewed by an expert team composed of professors from universities and institutions at home and abroad. They provided a scientific calculation basis for the calculation of household electricity emission reduction,” said Li Yingjie from the information center of Shenzhen Power Supply Bureau.

Users can earn honors from the application with their low-carbon behaviors. Communities with significant carbon reduction achievements can also obtain the honorary title of “green community.” Moreover, the application offers tailored tips on low-carbon and scientific power use to families with high carbon emissions to promote low-carbon energy consumption.

Citizens can exchange their emission reductions for opportunities to participate in low-carbon public welfare activities.

At the same time, it is estimated that Shenzhen Emissions Trading Market will put the emission reductions authorized by residents on its trading platform for purchases by high energy consuming social groups or enterprises to offset their own carbon emissions so that families can directly obtain benefits through low-carbon living.
