CHINESE lawmakers are considering a new set of mechanisms for the sports law to promote the integration of the national fitness program and the public health initiative.

The integration is a highlight of the new draft revision to the Physical Culture and Sports Law, which is scheduled to be submitted to next week’s session of the National People’s Congress (NPC) Standing Committee for a third reading, said Yang Heqing, a spokesperson for the Legislative Affairs Commission of the NPC Standing Committee, on Thursday.

The new draft stipulates that the state shall implement a national fitness strategy, put in place a public service system, and encourage and support citizens to participate in fitness activities, said Yang.

The state shall carry out a national fitness plan and establish a coordination mechanism for national fitness, according to the new draft, which requires governments at all levels and relevant authorities to facilitate public fitness activities.

The new draft also introduces a system of social sports instructors, who will help and assist the public participate in fitness activities in a scientific manner, said Yang.
