High-speed train makes extra stop for pregnant woman
    2022-06-22  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

A HIGH-SPEED train from Shenzhen to Beijing made an emergency stop at a nearby railway station Monday, as a pregnant woman on broad had labor pains, Shenzhen Evening News reported.

The woman, surnamed Tang, gave birth to a baby boy after she was taken to a hospital, and the mother and boy are doing well now.

On Monday morning, the train, with Tang and her husband on board, departed from Shenzhen North Railway Station to Beijing West Railway Station. Tang planned to return to her hometown to have the baby.

No sooner had the train left Guangzhou South Railway Station at around 8:35 a.m. than the woman developed acute contractions. Her husband immediately turned to the crew for help, telling them that his wife was at over 35 weeks and the baby was due for another month.

The crew called for help through the intercom system. Within minutes, a doctor came around to help and suggested that the woman should be sent to a hospital for delivery after determining that the baby was coming soon.

The conductor requested an emergency stop at a nearby railway station, because the train could only get to the next scheduled stop about an hour later.

At 9:50 a.m., the train stopped at Chenzhou West Railway Station, which was not on the schedule. With the help from the crew members and doctors waiting on the station platform, Tang was transferred to a hospital and gave birth at 3:40 p.m.  (Xia Yuanjie)
